Valmet / Metso IQ Integration

System Overview

Valmet (formerly Metso) IQ is a leading QCS platform for paper and board production. The Dilution Control System integrates with Valmet IQ via Modbus TCP or OPC interface to receive basis weight profile data.

Valmet History

Valmet and Metso merged their paper technology businesses. Systems may carry either brand name. Configuration is similar for both Valmet IQ and Metso IQ platforms.

Supported Systems

System Interface Notes
Valmet IQ Modbus TCP, OPC Current platform
Metso IQ Modbus TCP, OPC Previous generation
Valmet DNA with QCS Modbus TCP, OPC DA Integrated DCS/QCS
Damatic QCS OPC, custom Legacy system

Interface Options

Modbus TCP (Recommended)

Valmet IQ systems can export profile data via Modbus TCP. This requires configuration in the Valmet IQ Modbus Gateway or similar component.

OPC DA/UA

Valmet DNA and IQ systems provide OPC servers for data access. Use when Modbus is not available or when additional process data is needed.

Configuration Steps

Valmet-Side Configuration

Contact your Valmet service engineer to configure:

  1. Enable Modbus TCP Gateway in Valmet IQ
  2. Configure profile data export (basis weight CD profile)
  3. Set up profile array in Modbus registers
